Immediate Actions
- Hazard Lights: Turn them on immediately. visibility is often poor due to snow dust.
- Warning Triangle: Place it 100m behind your car. It is mandatory by law.
- Reflective Vest: Put this on BEFORE stepping out of the car. Every rental car has one in the glovebox or door pocket.

Engine Management
If the engine still runs but the car won't move (e.g., stuck in a specific ditch), keep the engine running.
However, check the tailpipe. If snow is blocking the exhaust pipe, carbon monoxide can enter the cabin. Clear the snow around the exhaust immediately.
Waiting for Help
Tow trucks in Lapland can take 2-4 hours to arrive due to long distances. Do not panic — consider choosing closer bases when possible (use the Resort Finder) and conserve your phone battery (keep it warm inside your jacket).
