emergency Immediate Response Protocol

112

This is the universal emergency number in Finland for Police, Ambulance, and Fire. Operators speak English. No area code required. Works without a SIM card.

smartphone Critical Tool

Download the "112 Suomi" app. Calling through the app automatically shares your exact GPS coordinates with rescuers. Essential in wilderness areas.

Booking Cancelled & Last Minute Disputes

Activity cancelled due to weather? Hotel overbooked? Finnish consumer law is strict, and you have rights.

Immediate Action Protocol

1

Request a "Cancellation Reason" in writing

You need an email or signed paper stating WHY it was cancelled (Weather, technical, etc.) for your insurance claim.

2

Refund vs. Rebooking

If the company cancels, they MUST offer a full refund. You are not obligated to accept a voucher, though rebooking for the next day is often the easiest path.

Disputes with Operators

If an operator refuses a refund for a service they did not provide, stay calm but firm. Mention the Kilpailu- ja kuluttajavirasto (KKV) — the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority.

Standard response time for disputes is 2-4 weeks.

Chargebacks

If you paid via Visa/Mastercard and the company is uncooperative, document the refusal and contact your bank immediately.

Weather Cancellations

Most tours (Huskies, Reindeer, Aurora) have a -30°C limit. If it is colder than this, the operator may cancel for animal welfare or safety reasons. Check your booking's "Fine Print", weather cancellations usually trigger a 100% refund, but they do NOT trigger "Compensation" for missed time.

See our Booking Activities guidance for choosing flexible operators, and read our ethical travel notes when booking animal experiences.
