Clothing & Cold Preparation
Arctic cold is technical. In Lapland, "warmth" is not a feeling—it's a system of moisture
management and air trapping.
01. The Three-Layer Logic
Base Layer
Material: 100% Merino Wool
Moisture management. Wicks sweat away to prevent conductive heat loss.
Mid Layer
Material: Heavy Fleece / Wool
Thermoregulation. Traps 'dead air' warmed by your body.
Shell Layer
Material: Gore-Tex / Hardshell
Protection. Blocks wind chill and external moisture but must be breathable.

Don't guess what to pack. Use our interactive calculator to get a specific list based on your travel dates, activity levels, and personal cold tolerance.
02. Tech Protection
The Cold Battery Phenomenon
Lithium-ion batteries stop functioning at sub-zero temperatures. Your phone may shut down at 80% charge if exposed for 2 minutes.
Keep electronics in inner layers, close to body heat.
Always carry a high-capacity power bank inside a woolen sock.
03. Pedestrian Safety
Reflector Requirements
Finnish law mandates the use of reflectors when walking in the dark.
Polar Night Visibility
During 'Kaamos', visibility is near zero. A reflector makes you visible from 300m away, vs just 40m without.
