112

This is the universal emergency number in Finland for Police, Ambulance, and Fire. Operators speak English. No area code required. Works without a SIM card.

smartphone Critical Tool

Download the "112 Suomi" app. Calling through the app automatically shares your exact GPS coordinates with rescuers. Essential in wilderness areas.

Flight Disruption

Winter storms in Lapland are common. Rovaniemi (RVN) and Kittilä (KTT) often face delays due to intense snowfall or de-icing backlogs.

If Your Flight is Cancelled

Naali thinking

Step 1: Secure Accommodation

Do not leave the airport until you have a confirmed room. Hotel capacity in Rovaniemi hits 99% in December. If you leave without a booking, you might end up sleeping on the terminal floor. Use the Resort Finder to locate nearby lodging and restaurants.

Alternative Routes South

If flights are grounded for days (rare but possible), your best escape route is the Night Train.

  • From Rovaniemi: Train station is 2km from center. Daily trains to Helsinki (12h).
  • From Kittilä: You must take a bus to Kolari Railway Station (1h drive) or Rovaniemi (2h drive).
